Indigenous Artifacts and Burials
Dr. Glanville documented a vast array of Mississippian items—gorgets, platform pipes, copper beads, and burial site relics—most now in private collections. These items were often discovered in river flood plains, burial caves, and sacred ceremonial spaces within Holstonia’s karst landscape.

The Yuchi Story
Central to this work is the long-overlooked history of the Yuchi people—pre-Columbian inhabitants of Holstonia. Their cultural, ceremonial, and economic systems spanned a vast region, and their presence reshapes our understanding of Southwest Virginia’s indigenous past.
Legacy and Call to Action
Dr. Glanville urged scholars and community members alike to protect what remains of Virginia’s pre-colonial archeology. While many artifacts are now lost or privatized, his work serves as a vital cornerstone for future research and Indigenous recognition.
