What is Holstonia, and why was it created?
Holstonia.co is a digital preservation project dedicated to the research and legacy of Dr. Jim Glanville. It exists to make his scholarly contributions on the Holston River Valley and Appalachian history accessible to educators, researchers, and the public.
Who was Dr. Jim Glanville?
Dr. Glanville was a chemist, historian, and independent scholar whose work centered on early Southeastern U.S. history, particularly around Saltville, Virginia. His legacy includes groundbreaking research on Native American culture, early Spanish contact, and Appalachian settlement history.
Why are only 7 archives featured in the digital knowledge base?
To ensure quality, clarity, and historical integrity, an initial set of 7 key archives was selected for digital integration. These were carefully chosen based on scholarly impact, public interest, and legacy significance. More may be added over time.
Where are the rest of Jim’s archives?
Over 240 of Jim’s original documents are available for download in their original PDF format. These are preserved in their entirety for public reference and remain unaltered from their original publication.
How is this site connected to MOMA and the Saltville Foundation?
Holstonia.co is supported in collaboration with The Saltville Foundation and the Museum of the Middle Appalachians (MOMA). These institutions help ensure the integrity, funding, and long-term sustainability of Jim’s digital legacy.
